Harmonic enables cable operators to deliver more bandwidth to the home with a number of solutions for the HFC network, including segmentation, fiber-deep architectures and 1-GHz expansion.

Harmonic offers a full range of transmitters, receivers and optical nodes for 1-GHz bandwidth expansion. These products add to Harmonic’s line of products today that serve more than four million homes. As cable operators add new, more personalized and on-demand video services, as well as greater amounts of high-speed internet and voice over IP, the ability to deliver more bandwidth to the home has become critical. Bandwidth expansion is also critical to operators who currently pursue Commercial Services. The new 1-GHz PWRLink™ broadcast transmitters, 1-GHz METROLink™ DWDM narrowcast transmitters, and 1-GHz forward path receivers support transport of substantially more video content across the cable network

To help operators segment their HFC networks while minimizing fiber and hub construction and maintenance costs, Harmonic also offers a family of 1-GHz WDM 1310-nm transmitters. These transmitters make it possible to deliver targeted services to nodes in fiber-scarce situations. They allow operators to increase revenue while minimizing capital expenditures.

Harmonic’s return path systems increase network capacity, scaleability, reach, reliability, and manageability. Integral to network segmentation, the enhanced capabilities of our family of upstream products support the provisioning of high-speed internet access services and more symmetric two-way applications such as cable telephony, video conferencing, gaming, and advanced services such as content on demand.

Universal EdgeQAM

At the heart of all of these applications and services is the universal edgeQAM. Harmonic pioneered video-on-demand network architectures, making VOD a reality with the world’s first multi-function edgeQAM, the Narrowcast Services Gateway™ (NSG™). Harmonic continues to lead the industry in this space, today powering more than 2.5 million VOD streams, serving over 50 million homes, and making it possible to support a range of new architectures such as SDV and 3:1 HD statistical multiplexing to enhance bandwidth efficiency. Harmonic’s latest generation NSG 9000 universal edgeQAM is a high density (72 QAM in 2-RU) system that offers the industry’s best RF performance and serves as a highly integrated digital video gateway, capable of performing multiplexing, scrambling, QAM modulation, encryption and RF upconversion for on-demand content streamed over an IP network. The NSG is the solution of choice for broadcast, on-demand, SDV and modular CMTS. It is also DOCSIS 3.0 ready and designed to support direct-to-edge applications.
