Harmonic's IPTV Solution

Harmonic offers a state-of-the art suite of IP-based video delivery solutions including content acquisition, compression and stream processing. With the addition of Harmonic's On-Demand solutions, Harmonic now offers integrated broadcast (multicast) and On-Demand (unicast) solutions to Telco operators. The figure below describes the different components of Harmonic's video solution architecture.

IP-centric Architecture

Choosing the right architecture is paramount when addressing scalability, reliability and ease of operation, especially in the case of multi-site or remote locations. Years ago Harmonic pioneered the use of IP-centric Head-End architectures which substantially differ from traditional broadcast layouts by using an operator's private IP network to do Service Aggregation. To add new services operators simply add equipment to the IP backbone. Harmonic has been consistent with this IP-centric approach by integrating IP into all its product lines. This also includes Harmonic's DiviTrackIP™ solution which provides Statistical Multiplexing of a pool of equipment distributed in different geographical locations, making the network layout totally transparent in terms of video transmission concerns.
